Orange poppy seed fish recipe

Orange Poppy Seed Fish

I made a couple changes to this recipe from the original, like adding flour to thicken the sauce (it was really thin otherwise) and coating the fish on both sides with poppy seeds. For extra delicious.

The fish can be served with rice, couscous, potatoes, salad, however you'd like it. Couscous was my favourite.

-4 skinless sole or striped bass fillets (we've also used basa, tilapia, and catfish)
-salt and pepper
-1 egg, beaten
-1/4 cup poppy seeds
-juice and zest of 1 large orange*
-3 tbsp olive oil
-2 tbsp butter
-1/2 tbsp flour

Season the fish with salt and pepper on both sides. Brush each side with egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds to coat.

Heat oil in pan over medium heat. Add fish and cook 2-7 min per side until just cooked (time will depend on fish). Transfer to platter to keep warm.

Add butter to pan and place over low heat to melt. Stir in flour, then stir in orange juice and zest to mix. Spoon sauce over fish and serve.

This recipe was from the LCBO (in 2007!) but is no longer available on their website.

*I only used about a tsp of zest but I also only made enough sauce for two fillets.
